Team North Ayrshire congratulates local business leader Derek Pierce on being named Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year

Local North Ayrshire businessman Derek Pierce, managing director of J&D Pierce has been named Scotland’s Entrepreneur of the year at the prestigious Summit Entrepreneurship Awards in Glasgow.
The 2018 Summit Entrepreneurship Awards are supported by Delottie, Barclays and Scotland is Now. The awards programme has been developed to showcase and celebrate entrepreneurial leaders from all backgrounds across the public, private and social sectors and at every stage of growth.
Entrepreneur of the Year was awarded to Derek Pierce, Managing Director of J&D Pierce Contracts, one of the largest structural steelwork contractors in the UK.
The company was established in 1975 in Glengarnock, North Ayrshire, providing light fabrication and general blacksmith work. Today, J&D Pierce, employs 350 staff across six divisions and has been involved in prestigious projects including Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow Queen Street Station redevelopment and Gatwick Airport’s new hanger for Boeing.
Derek Pierce, Managing Director, J&D Pierce, said: “I am delighted to have won this award, whilst being in the limelight is not something I normally welcome, it is great recognition to all our staff as without their hard work and dedication this could not have been possible.”

Speaking about Derek’s award win, Councillor Alex Gallagher, Cabinet Member for Ecobnomy, said: “I would like to congratulate Derek Pierce on receiving this accoldae. Derek is an inspirational business leader and we are very proud that J&D Pierce have their roots firmly planted in North Ayrshire.
“J&D Pierce is one of the largest employers in North Ayrshire providing good quality, sustainable jobs. The company have made huge investments inlucidng £16m investment in the last three years making their facility the largest most automated CNC facility in Europe with the ability to fabricate in excess of 1000 tonnes of steel per week.”
