Irvine based medical device innovator, RUA Medical, signs major commercial agreement

RUA Medical is excited to announce completion of a major commercial agreement with AorTech International plc for the development and supply of soft tissue pericardial patches and large bore vascular grafts. RUA Medical,  established in 2013 by founder David Richmond, is a full-service medical device contract developer, contract manufacturer and implantable fabric specialist. Its two main service offerings are design and manufacture of implantable fabrics; and medical device assembly.

RUA Medical’s business is all about personalised service, combined with innovative design and development, and a track record in Innovation and Quality. The Company regularly works alongside medical device clients’ R&D teams and product managers looking for technologically advanced new products and performance improvements to existing product lines. RUA Medical’s customer base is worldwide and the majority of its sales are to export markets.

RUA Medical currently has two Ayrshire sites - Irvine and Prestwick, with cleanroom facilities at Prestwick and head office based at Irvine. Both hold BS EN ISO 13485:2016 certification and are FDA registered.

In March 2018, Caroline Stretton came on board as Chief Executive Officer and founder, David Richmond, moved into the role of Global Business Development Director. RUA Medical’s long term growth strategy will continue to focus heavily on partnerships with world-leading medical device and biotech companies to provide technologically innovative products that can deliver lifesaving and life enhancing solutions. Expansion plans in early 2019 include a new 2000sqft cleanroom at its Irvine facility to increase the firm’s capability and capacity. RUA Medical has also recently benefited from a grant from North Ayrshire Council’s ‘Ayrshire BG Business Competitiveness Programme’ which has allowed the Company to identify areas for skills improvement and develop staff training programmes to support the needs of the growing business.
